Today was a great day. It never got too hot and Timo Yanacheck and Pat Heyn showed up later in the day to run the last 4-5 hours with me. Robert Wehner did a super job getting me to eat and drink over 4000 calories again.
We finished in almost record time (5:20pm) even though there was a steady wind blowing into me for 35-40 miles of the day. I figure the wind was a least a 15 mph and gusted to 25mph at times. So the wind did affect the forward motion, but not to a big detriment. I would be happy with a little less wind however.
A lot of flatish road and bike trail did make the going quick for much of the day. Janesville and Milton had some very nice trail sections. Janesville could use a little more blazing at places and Milton could use a boardwalk in the Storrs Lake segment, but overall no worries.
I was remiss yesterday to not thank Tom Bunk for his great crew job over the previous week. With his help I came through some tough sections and the legs are feeling almost fresh in comparison to what they were during the first week of the run. Thanks Tom.
Tuesday should be exciting in that there will be a video crew with us all day from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal and a whole bunch of runners from Milwaukee and Kettle area. A photographer from the Janesville Gazette took pictures today and a reporter (Anna Marie) came over to the hotel tonight to talk about the run with me.
The finish next Sunday is looking possible right now and that is our long term goal still. The short term goal is to get a good night’s sleep and start tomorrow off early.
Should get just past the Scuppernong area on Tuesday.
