We had another successful day, covering about 50 miles for a total of about 745 miles. We are staying in New Glarus tonight and made it to River Road south of Monticello after 11 hours of running and walking today.
After starting by myself in Cross Plains early this morning, Tim Goihl joined me on Timber Road on his bike after about 8 miles. It was a good mix of road and trail today, but the most challenging aspect was the heat. It was well into the 80’s and that meant a lot of ice and water. I ate and drank all day and maxed out my calorie intake at about 4000 during the day. So I guess I won’t be losing much weight if I keep this up. Then had ribs and potato soup tonight at Toffler’s here in town.
During the day there were many people running with me. Brent caught up with me for several miles around Verona as did a high school friend Tony. Tony couldn’t stay real long since he is remodeling his house, but it was good to see him. At the dog park my coworker Bruce and Vicki showed up on their motorcycle to say hi too. It was midday by then and the heat was getting tough, so it was nice to meet others on the road.
Jim Reardon from the Wisconsin Track Club ran with me until just after Basco. As we entered the Badger Bike Trail north of Basco, Greg and Janice came out to jog a little bit. Greg ran farther than he had for probably the past year, but he kept up for a mile or so. Once I was past Basco I was only alone for about another mile before Audrey Drake and Mark Pernitz showed up to run until the end of the day. Brad Drake switched with Audrey after about 8-10 miles. Then at the very end Ann Heaslett showed up to run the last few miles with us and got rained on over the last ½ mile as I wanted to get the 50 miles in.
So all in all another great day.
