Today, on our way to the River to River Relay, Timo phoned Tom Bunk for an update on how Jason has been doing. Tom was on his way home, having passed off care of Jason to Rob Wehner at around 2:30 PM this afternoon.
Tom said Jason had done a "face plant" this AM. He also said that Jason's lower legs are red from inflammation, but seem to be responding to treatment with ibuprofen.
Today, Tom lost Jason for 2 1/2 hours after he got twisted around on the park roads. Jason was without water for about 1 hour.
Tom says Jason has low points emotionally during the day, but seems to rejuvenate well overnight and into the next morning.
Tom is encouraging Jason to put his schedule aside and run as best he can given the conditions on the trail and his own condition.
Tom will return to help Jason some more Sunday night. Thank you Tom! Thank you Rob!
One sad note: we learned today that Roy Pirrung's wife Gail died in a fire at their home earlier this week. Apparently Roy was not at home at the time. Roy is a good Wisconsin ultrarunning friend and we all want to send our deepest sympathies to him and his children.
