Jason called in tonight with a report, but first a note about his crew for the weekend. Robert Wehner will be crewing Jason Friday afternoon, Saturday, Sunday and into Monday. Tom bunk will be back for the rest of the week. If you need to contact Jason, call Robert's cell at 262-370-7270.
And now on to the transcribed and paraphrased report...
Today we did 38 miles, so we were not able to get in the full planned mileage, but it was still 11 hours. We are about 14 miles behind the plan right now, but that is not a big deal and we will make that up later as necessary - possibly the last day or by adding a day.
Right now we are in triage mode to make sure the ankles get better - icing, taping, ankle braces and retying the shoes to keep the pressure off the tendon that goes on the front part of my foot because that's what's sore. The good news is that everything else is fine - the stomach is good, quads and calves are good, so it's really just the ankles.
Today early on I was running pigeon-toed on the one foot to keep the pressure off the bad ankle which seemed to alleviate the pain for about 10 miles. So I was able to run which helped us get in 38 miles. We ended on the top of
Timm's hill today. Bob Rush, a local trail runner here, ran 24 miles with me today. Bob's opinion was that Timm's hill was an official part of the trail, so we did it. It was a really nice ending point, up on the tower. You could see way off in the distance, probably where I need to run in the next couple days.
We estimate that we have completed about 225 miles, or about 25% complete at this point.
Tonight we are staying in
Rib Lake, WI
Tomorrow I can start where I left the main trail to go up Timm's hill. It will be a good mix of trail and road and we plan to do about 35 to 40 miles, agan a little short to let the ankles rest. We have no idea what the trail situation is - if it's good runnable trail or rocks and roots - I'll just take whatever comes at me. The good news is that as I get further south the trails will probably get better just because the are used more and maintained better.
